my new tool

It's here! My new Silhouette SD digital cutter. I'm so excited about this new tool. I've been anticipating it's arrival and now it's in my presence, right next to me. I tried it out for a few little paper projects already. I'm still learning how to use it, but the possiblities seem endless. Already it's been very useful for card making, scrapbooking and gift tags. I'm excited to see what I can create and possibly sell.

I can't help but relate this to our relationship with God. Just as tools are made for specific uses, God has created each one of us for a purpose. We can choose to use our talents for our own glory or for God's glory. But the person that God can really use isn't necessarily the one who is dripping with talent. It's simply the person who is available, choosing to be in God's presence, sitting with Him. And He must think, 'I'm excited to see what I can do through this person, My beloved creation, My child.'

That's the kind of person I want to be - a surrendered person who allows God to use me for His glory. He knows what's best. "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17

In the beginning...

God has given me the desire to create. It's been a passion of mine since I can remember. When I think back to my play times as a child, I loved to play house and to make stuff.

As a 7-year old I remember making bookmarks with notebook paper and curling ribbon, then putting them in an overturned box lid tied with yarn. I put it around my neck and flitted door-to-door to sell them for 5 or 10 cents each (depending on the design, of course). One sweet lady bought 2 of them and I made my first 15 cents. I was thrilled! Not because I made 15 cents, but because my creations made someone smile. Almost 30 years later, I'm still the same little girl with added computer skills, a BFA in illustration, over 10 years of professional design experience, and a deeper faith in Jesus Christ.

I've always wanted to find a way to sell my creations. With the internet, my dream has been given wings to fly (more on that later). And the best part is I'm able to be home with my kids. God has been faithful to show me ways I can "consider a field and buy it" (Proverbs 31:16), so I can bless my family with extra income. As a Christian artist, I want simply to be a tool in the hand of the Master Artist.

And so begins my online journey of creative expression. Enjoy my posts. I hope they inspire and encourage you and bring glory to God.
